Trucker Charged Twice In An Hour

Provincial police officers were left shaking their heads after a truck driver was pulled over twice within an hour for the same offence.

Middlesex OPP held a one day blitz targeting distracted drivers on Hwy. 401 and county roads on Thursday. During the crackdown, officers busted a trucker in Middlesex for using a hand-held device. The same trucker was stopped in neighbouring Oxford county just 65 minutes later, and charged with the same offence.

"If that call, text or social media update can't wait, then drivers need to plan ahead and find a safe location to use a device," said Constable Max Gomez. "Operating a commercial motor vehicle while using a cellular device places everyone at risk of grave consequences. We never think it can happen to us, until it does. That text could be your last."

Police used an unmarked vehicle to spot distracted drivers. Upon witnessing another motorist using their cell phone, officers radio to a marked police cruiser to pull the offending driver over.

In total, ten people were charged for using hand-held devices during the blitz. Another three were nailed for speeding.
