Prisoner Transport Van, Tractor Trailer Collide

Oxford County OPP are investigating after a tractor trailer collided with a prisoner transport van on Friday.

On Friday at around 4pm, OPP responded to the scene of a two-vehicle collision on Hwy. 401 EB just west of Sweaburg Rd. in South-West Oxford Township.

Police say the van, which was travelling eastbound in the third lane (shoulder lane), slowed down because of traffic and was rear ended by a tractor trailer.

According to police, the tractor was hauling a double (B-train) set of trailers at the time. The van, which was a Ministry of Correctional Services prisoner transport vehicle, had three correctional officers and one adult male prisoner in the vehicle.

OPP say the prisoner was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Two male correctional officers were also taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Police say the female correctional officer and the male driver of the transport truck were not injured.

The investigation is continuing and charges are pending.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision and has not yet spoken to police is asked to contact Oxford County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
