London has seen another temperature record fall as scorching, summer-like weather continues across southwestern Ontario.
The temperature reached 30 C at 12pm on Tuesday, breaking the previous record high for September 26 of 29.4 C set in 1998.
This is the sixth day in a row London has reached record-breaking daytime highs. On Monday, the September heat wave took down the previous record of 26.7 C set on the same date in 1958, as the temp peaked at 31 C.
Records were also broken over the weekend. Saturday's high of 32.2 C broke the record of 28.3 C set in 1959, while Sunday's 32.2 C broke the 1970 record of 28.3 C. Last Thursday and Friday also saw record breaking temperatures.
The sweltering weather prompted Environment Canada to issue a heat warning and the Middlesex London Health Unit to issue a heat alert. Both advisories remain in effect, although probably not for much longer.
Forecasters are calling for a daytime high Wednesday of 25 C that will feel closer to 31 C with the humidity. But by Thursday, a cold front moving into the region will bring considerably cooler air that will see the daytime high reach a more seasonable 19 C.
City spray pads at the Forks of the Thames, Gibbons Park, and Ed Blake Park will remain open until at least Wednesday.
