Brantford Man Struck, Killed By Train

A 36-year-old Brantford man is dead after being hit by a Via Rail train that was travelling to Toronto from London.

The passenger train was heading east when it hit a pedestrian on the tracks at Powerline Rd. between Oak Park Rd. and Paris Rd. in Brantford around 7:30am Tuesday.

Brantford police say a 36-year-old Brantford man was pronounced dead at the scene. The death is not considered suspicious.

Roughly 200 passengers were on board the train at the time.

"Obviously these are always difficult incidents for the locomotive engineers who are driving the locomotive," said VIA Rail spokesperson Mariam Diaby.

Diaby noted the man was trespassing on the rail line when he was hit.

The collision closed the tracks for nearly three hours. Via Rail Trains 70, 71, and 82 were delayed by about two hours as a result.
