OPP: Impaired Trucker Caused 401 Crash

A Brampton trucker is facing an impaired driving charge after a crash on Hwy. 401 in Oxford County that sent another truck driver to hospital.

Oxford OPP say a tractor trailer was heading east on the busy highway, just west of Oxford Road 29 in Blandford-Blenheim Township, when it suddenly slowed down and was rear ended by another transport around 8:30pm on Wednesday.

Fire crews had to cut the driver of the second transport from the wreckage. He was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

A car that was in the area at the time was hit by flying debris from the crash and had to be towed from the scene. That driver was not hurt.

The Ministry of Environment was called because about 200 litres of disel fuel spilled as a result of the crash.

The highway was reduced to a single eastbound lane for over three hours as crews worked to clear the debris.

The driver of the first transport, a 36-year-old Brampton man, was arrested at the scene. He is now charged with driving while ability impaired causing bodily harm, failure to provide a breath sample, and driving while suspended.
