London's Newest Millionaire

A London woman plans to share the wealth and send her mother on an Alaskan cruise with the $1-million she won in a Lotto Max draw earlier this month.

Susan Van Egmond became the city's newest millionaire after winning Encore in the August 18 draw. She discovered the big win a few days later while checking her ticket at the grocery store.

"I scanned the ticket and stared at the words ‘big winner'. I thought the checker was broken – some kind of glitch – I absolutely did not believe what I was seeing,” said Van Egmond while picking up her winnings at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto.

Still in disbelief, Van Egmond asked the store manager to validate the ticket.

"The ticket was scanned again and when the manager said ‘that’s a winning ticket’ I was overcome with excitement; shaking, crying and hugging the store staff," said Van Egmond.

She immediately gathered her mother and two close friends to begin celebrating and making travel plans.

“I am excited to travel more and would love to visit friends in Italy, and would also love to treat my mom to a cruise in Alaska," said Van Egmond. “Winning the lottery is absolutely life changing for me. It gives me a nest egg for the future and incredible peace of mind."

The winning ticket was purchased at the Shell Canada on Oxford St.
