Fire Destroys Two Unfinished Homes

Fire officials say the construction site in northwest London where two unfinished homes were burned to the ground Friday had seen other, smaller fires in recent weeks.

The new homes on Lawson Rd., near Sandbar St. collapsed after fire ripped through the partially completed structures at 1:30am. Fire crews were able to save a third home from being destroyed by the intense flames.

Luckily, no one was hurt. An early estimate puts the damage around $400,000.

There is no word on whether the fire is being treated as suspicious, but Chief Fire Prevention Officer Wendy Cowdrey noted this isn't the first time the construction site has been plagued by fire.

"A number of smaller fires have been found by the contractors on scene in recent weeks," said Cowdrey.

Two London fire investigators and an investigator from the Office of the Fire Marshall are looking into the cause of the blaze.
