Majors Finish Off Herd

The London Majors are off to the next round of the Intercounty Baseball League playoffs.

The Majors dispatched the Burlington Herd with a 7-2 win in Game 5 of their opening round playoff series at Labatt Park on Tuesday night. London won the series four games to one.

Luis Sanchez had another excellent start in the series for the Majors, going eight innings, giving up just two runs on nine hits. He had four strikeouts and just one one walk. He threw a complete game shutout in game one of the series.

Byron Reichstein and Cleveland Brownlee each had two hits and two RBI and combined to score three times for the Majors. Kyle Gormandy drove in three, LeJon Baker had an RBI, and Chris McQueen went 2-for-3 with two runs and a stolen base.

The Majors now await the winner of the Kitchener-Hamilton series. The Panthers lead it three games to one. Game five is set for Thursday night in Kitchener.

Youth volunteers practice coastal conservation

Nine young volunteers aged 11 to 17 spent three days exploring and protecting the Lake Huron coastline during the Coastal Conservation Youth Corps' inaugural program in Grand Bend from July 21 to 23.
