Suspicious Package Investigated in Norfolk County

A government building in Simcoe was the scene of an investigation into a suspicious package Monday.

Ontario Provincial Police in Norfolk County responded to a call shortly after 9:45am, made from a government building on Queensway East. An employee had spotted an unattended package left near the building's main entrance.

Officers secured the area and the OPP Explosive Disposal Unit was called in.

The parking lot to the building was closed for several hours. Shortly before 1pm, police say a person came to the location claiming to be the owner of the package. The person had left the package there with the intention of picking it up later.

The explosive unit determined that the package was not a hazard and there were no suspicious materials.
