City Appoints New HR Boss

There is a new human resources boss at London city hall.

City Manager Martin Hayward confirmed Tuesday afternoon that Bill Coxhead, who currently oversees the parks and recreation department, will take over as managing director of human resources effective Wednesday.

Coxhead has been with the city for over 25 years in various roles. He is also a member of the senior leadership team.

"He's been integral as part of this city in many different ways and also has worked on many corporate initiatives that we've had underway," said Hayward. "[Coxhead] has very positive relationships with the staff and with anyone that he has actually worked with. From my own personal experience when I was treasurer, I had a very positive relationship with him, definitely a very corporate team player. He is well respected."

At this point it is unclear whether the city's longtime HR boss Veronica McAlea Major resigned or was let go.

"I can't comment on that as it is a personnel matter," said Hayward when asked about McAlea Major's departure.

McAlea Major held the top human-resources position with the city since 2003. She was the fifth highest paid public servant with the city in 2016, earning $188,470.

The city will now begin the task of finding a replacement for Coxhead in the parks and recreation department. While the details still need to be hammered out, Hayward said the city may appoint someone to assume the role on an acting basis for the time being.
