It's shaping up to be a stormy Wednesday in the London area.
Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for much of southwestern Ontario, including London, Middlesex County, Elgin County and Oxford County.
In a statement issued Wednesday morning, the federal weather agency says "conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts and heavy rain."
Forecasters say thunderstorms are expected to develop Wednesday afternoon and last into the overnight hours. The storms could pack wind gusts of up to 90 km/h and rainfall amounts of up to 50 mm in some areas.
Environment Canada is also reminding people to protect themselves from the potential dangers caused by intense storms.
"Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes," it says. "Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!"
