Countdown To Western Fair

It's still two months away, but organizers of the Western Fair have released this year's lineup of attractions.

The 2017 Western Fair will be held from September 8-17. Tickets went on sale Monday. Organizers say this year's fair will have over 50 midway rides, more than 800 animals, as well as events like concerts and the demolition derby.

There will be concerts at the Metroland Media Agriplex, including an opening night show by Canadian rockers 54-40, presented by Classic Rock Free 98.1. Two nights of country shows will feature the duo Locash (September 12) and singer/songwriter Cam, who will play the next night along with Madeline Merlo. The final concert will see Andy Grammer take the stage.

This year's fair will also feature freestyle motorcross demonstrations on September 15 and 16, high diving performances by "the Flying Fools," and the demolition derby, which will be held on the final Sunday. There will also be an e-sports tournament for the first time at the fair.  Halo 5 and Madden football will be among the video games being played at the tournament.

Fair-goers who come out to see the agricultural displays will have no shortage of things to see. Fair officials say, along with the more than 800 animals, there will be kiddie tractor pulls, daily horse-shoeing, sheep shearing, cow milking, dairy and beef breed displays, and the high school rodeo.

Local talent will also be on display as the fair features another edition of the Rise2Fame competition. Contestants between the ages of 6 and 21 will show off their singing, dancing, and playing abilities on the Park Stage.
