Inspired by one of their fans, a local improv troupe is collecting backpacks, duffel bags, and suitcases for foster kids in London.
Pants Labyrinth, a group that performs monthly in London Upstairs at Jack's on Richmond St., is asking those planning to attend their next show on Thursday to bring a new or gently used bag. All bags donated will be given to children living in foster care or group homes in the city.
Troupe member Melissa Hoadley says the seven member troupe, dedicated to making people laugh, stepped up to help less fortunate kids after seeing a social media post. The post was from one of their most faithful fans, who works with area foster children.
"She posted something on Facebook about being disappointed in her fellow colleagues, that they would move kids with their things in garbage bags and not even with boxes like a normal person," said Hoadley. "It's demoralizing."
While Pants Labyrinth is fairly new to the improv scene, having only been together for a year, Hoadley said they aren't new at giving back to the community.
"Within the group, we were part of a charity show last month to benefit a young boy who had cancer and has since passed away," said Hoadley. "I've also filled in with another improv troupe to do a show for a kid's cancer camp last month. We are all pretty passionate about doing whatever we can for the community."
Hoadley said each member of the troupe has been collecting bags from co-workers, family, and friends. Those who bring a bag donation to the Thursday night performance will be allowed in for half price, $5.
"We take audience suggestions during our performances and make it up right there, so nothing is ever the same," said Hoadley. "We don't have any scripting. It will be funny, I can guarantee that."
Pants Labyrinth's show, "Great Eggspectations" gets underway at 7pm.
