Snow Just What Boler Asked For

It may not be much fun for drivers or people longing for spring, but you won't hear officials at Boler Mountain complaining about the dose of winter weather the London area is getting this week.

Snowfall and below-freezing temperatures are making for perfect March Break conditions at the facility.

"Definitely the last few weeks have been a little slower than we would like so this snow should re-energize people and get them back to the hills," said Greg Strauss, co-manager of Boler Mountain.

Boler was forced to close its tube park and west hill for the season after London recorded its warmest February in history last month. Since then the facility's eight other slopes have remained open thanks to man-made snow.

"We need to have a 30cm to 40cm snow base throughout. So this year has been a lot of make some snow, watch it melt, make some snow, watch it melt," said Strauss. "Anytime mother nature helps us out with some natural snow or cold temperatures it is a big help. This is actually one of the latest years we've had to make snow with snow guns running throughout this past weekend just to get us through the March Break."

With kids off from school and a fresh blanket of snow on the way, Strauss anticipates the slopes will be packed all week long.

"The natural snow is a great form of advertising for us," said Stauss. "The man-made stuff gets us through those warm spells but people looking out their front windows and seeing snow on the ground gets people excited for winter sport. It's great news for us."

Flurries are expected in London through Thursday before the temperature climbs above freezing on Friday.
