UPDATE: Body Recovered After Car Driven Into Port Stanley Harbour

Police have now confirmed that the body of a woman has been recovered after a vehicle went into the Port Stanley Harbour.

Elgin OPP were called Tuesday around 7pm by a witness who, according to police, heard a vehicle revving sound followed by a crashing noise, and a splash in the harbour.

The OPP's Underwater Search and Recovery Unit searched the harbour for much of the day on Wednesday, however, strong winds made the task harder for police.

Divers eventually located the vehicle and discovered the body of a 47-year-old woman inside. The submerged vehicle, a silver PT Cruiser, was removed by a crane late Wednesday afternoon.

Elgin County Victim Services has attended the scene to assist the woman's family members.

Police do not suspect foul play in the woman's death at this time, and her name is not being released.
