In an effort to strengthen supports for victims of crime and other tragedies, London police are teaming up with Victim Services of Middlesex-London.
Police announced the newly formed partnership on Tuesday.
“The London Police Service looks forward to working collaboratively with Victim Services Middlesex-London to strengthen supports and services to victims of crime and tragedy in our communities. We would like to thank the Government of Ontario for their support of this partnership,” said Police Chief John Pare.
Victim Services Middlesex-London, previously Victim Services of Middlesex County, will open a new central office within London police headquarters on Dundas St. They will work collaboratively with several police units to serve over 7,000 victims annually.
The partnership is an enhancement of services currently provided by members of the London Police Service’s Crisis Intervention Support Unit.
Victim services responders provide on-site, short-term assistance to victims and make referrals to community agencies for long-term assistance. Responders are trained to provide support to victims of intimate partner abuse, sexual assault, stalking/harassment, elder abuse, suicide, property crime, sudden death, motor vehicle collision, fire, human trafficking, and natural disaster. Their services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week at the request of police.
Victim Services of Middlesex-London is a not for profit, registered charitable organization. With the expansion into London, the program is in need of more volunteers.
