Londoners are being invited to show solidarity with those affected by the shooting at a mosque in Quebec City.
The London Muslim Mosque will hold a solidarity event at 12pm Monday.
A statement on the mosque's Facebook page reads,
"In response to the deadly shootings in a Quebec City Mosque and the rise of anti-Muslim rhetoric, we are asking people of all faiths and backgrounds to gather in support of our Muslim neighbours. The London Muslim Mosque on Oxford St. W was the first purpose-built mosque in Ontario, the second in Canada, and the third in North America. It is a Sacred Place of worship. As Canadians, we should all feel safe in this country, above all when we are in sanctuary for prayer. Please unite with our Muslim brothers and sisters. Let us declare that London is a community that embraces love and is united against hate. Let us stand beside one another and call for open and caring communities. Gather outside the mosque in an act of solidarity at 12pm, January 30. All are welcome; bring yourselves, your children, and your friends. Bring signs, bring hope. The Mosque will host prayers at 12:45 pm and Imam Tawakkal has issued an open invitation for anyone who would like to observe prayer to join at that time. Please pass this message on to all who are interested. Ample parking can be found behind the Mosque."
The mosque is located at 151 Oxford St. W.
A candlelight vigil will also be held in Victoria Park at 6pm on Wednesday.
