A group of lucky 41 people, including 30 from London, are splitting a $1-million lottery prize.
The Lotto 6/49 draw was made on September 24, 2016, and will see each member receive an even split of the winnings equal to $24,390.24. The winning ticket was purchased at Esso on the Run on Wellington Rd. in London.
The group learned about the win when George Meek, one of the lottery winners, stopped by the store to check the winning ticket.
“I went straight to the retailer and handed our ticket over. I was shocked when the terminal shut down and I saw the words, ‘Big Winner’ flash on the screen. Then, OLG called the store and asked to speak with me,” he said in a media release.
Meek said the group, who all met working together, has been playing the lottery for 26 years.
The majority of the group members said they intend to use the money to travel and to help out family.
