The Force is strong with Londoners who intend to hold a lightsaber vigil to say farewell to late actress Carrie Fisher.
The tribute to Fisher, who passed away at the age of 60 earlier this week, will be held on Friday at 7pm in Victoria Park. Fisher is most well known for her role as Princess Leia in the Star Wars films.
Organizer Andrew Kitt said those attending are welcome to show up wearing Star Wars costumes for the occasion, and anyone who does not have a lightsaber is encouraged to bring a glow stick or a candle.
Kitt, who also heads up London Comic Con, said Fisher and the character of Leia have resonated with so many people because of their ability to overcome great odds in film and her struggles in real life.
"She fought the dark side in the movies, and she faced the dark side with her bipolar disorder and everything," he said. "She never shied away from it... I think a lot of people see that heroism in her on screen and off."
Kitt said the event has "taken off" and received quite a bit of attention from the local community. He says based on the social media response, he expects the vigil to bring out close to 200 loyal fans.
With so many celebrities and icons passing away in 2016, Kitt said it's important to celebrate actors like Fisher who have impacted so many people.
"Carrie Fisher's character Princess Leia -- she represented hope... so let's not let 2016 end on a total sour note," he said. "It's chance for us all to show a little camaraderie."
