London police have yet to make an arrest following a fatal shooting at an east-end apartment building.
Police were called to a second floor unit in a three-storey walk-up at 135 Connaught Ave. around 10:20pm on Wednesday, where they found a man with an apparent gunshot wound.
The man, who has since been identified as 26-year-old Emmanuel Awai of London, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say an autopsy was scheduled for Thursday.
Constable Ken Steeves said police are treating the death as a homicide.
"We do have our major crimes investigators investigating the matter and we also have forensic identification officers processing the scene, gathering evidence," said Steeves.
An officer is stationed in the hallway on the second floor of the building, guarding the unit where the shooting took place. Other officers were seen outside searching a dumpster and looking under parked vehicles.
As of Thursday afternoon, police would not comment on whether or not a weapon had been found.
"We can't disclose at this point as to whether a weapon has been recovered," said Steeves. "We are fairly early in the investigation but it may be disclosed at a later time."
This is London's fifth homicide of the year.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call police at 519-661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
