Two players with the London Lightning who are accused of assaulting a police officer have been suspended indefinitely.
In a news release issued Wednesday, the Lightning announced Taylor Black and Marcus Capers have been suspended by both the team and the National Basketball League of Canada until the charges against them are resolved or withdrawn.
"Acts of violence are unacceptable and inconsistent with the core principles of the London Lightning and the National Basketball league of Canada," the release says.
Black and Capers were charged after a female London police officer was assaulted early Saturday morning. Police had been called to Joe Kool's at 595 Richmond St. in response to an incident involving the two players.
When officers arrived, one was assaulted and suffered a minor injury.
Capers, 26, and Black, 24, are charged with assaulting a police officer. Black is also charged with resisting arrest.
