Knights Contain the Rangers 6-2

Josh Nelson scored two goals as the London Knights beat the Kitchener Rangers 6-2 Sunday night at Budweiser Gardens.

The victory puts the Knights one point behind the idle Erie Otters in the OHL Midwest Division standings at 47.  The Rangers are in fourth place in the division with 38 points.

Olli Juolevi opened the Knights offence at 10:26 in the first period with his sixth goal of the season.  Nelson would add to the lead at 16:12 with his second lamplighter of the year, and a goal from Brandon Crawley, on the power play, provided London with a 3-0 lead before the first intermission.

The scoring onslaught would carry over into the second period with a goal from Alex Formenton, though Kitchener would finally get on the board with 35 seconds left in the period on a goal from Nick McHugh.

J.J. Piccinich would place his contribution to the London offence in the third period, scoring on Kitchener goalie Luke Opilka at 5:01.  Nelson notched his second goal of the game later in the period to give the Knights a 6-1 lead.    Kitchener would sneak a goal of its own in before the end of regulation, off the stick of Adam Mascherin.

Tyler Parsons was the winner in goal for London, with 27 saves out of 29 shots faced.  Tyler Johnson would serve the last 2:44 of the game, facing only three Rangers shots.

The Knights travel to Peterborough on Thursday night, while the Rangers travel to Erie on Wednesday.
