An unlicensed music club in east London has been busted by local authorities.
The City of London says an investigation that involved London police, the fire department, the Middlesex-London Health Unit, and city bylaw enforcement led to several citations being issued against the club known as "The J Spot."
The building at 560 Quebec St. is zoned for industrial purposes, but a news release from the city says the upper portion was being used as an after-hours club.
“Buildings are built and designed in compliance with zoning and building and fire codes. Using industrial warehouses for public assembly uses, especially where alcohol may alter the decision making capabilities of the occupants, is a serious public safety concern,” said Orest Katolyk, chief municipal law enforcement officer.
The citations come in the wake of a devastating fire that killed 36 people at a warehouse in Oakland, California. The warehouse has hosting a concert at the time of the fire.
