Unconscious Man Rescued From Burning Home

A man is in hospital after being pulled, unresponsive from a burning home in Woodstock.

Firefighters were called to a home on Hunter St. just after 4:30am on Wednesday. When crews arrived the house was engulfed in flames.

A man was found unconscious inside.

"We brought him out of the home unresponsive," said Lisa Woods of the Woodstock Fire Department. "We then provided CPR, bringing the individual back. He was transported by Oxford County EMS to Woodstock hospital."

No one else was inside the home at the time of the fire. Damage is estimated at $150,000.

Woods said the blaze serves as a reminder to always ensure there are working smoke alarms inside your home.

"Working smoke alarms can provide early detection in case of a fire and allow you the time you need to escape," said Woods. "If you haven't done so, make sure you check your smoke alarms and you have one on every level outside of sleeping areas."

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but fire officials do not believed it to be suspicious. The Ontario Fire Marshal has been called in to assist with the investigation.
