UPDATE: One Dead, Three Injured In Hwy. 401 Crash

Provincial police have identified a man who was killed during multi-vehicle crashes on Hwy. 401 west of Woodstock, which also injured three other people.

The OPP says emergency crews responded to the crash on Friday around 6:45am. The collisions forced police to close the eastbound and westbound lanes between Mill St. in Woodstock and Foldens Line east of Ingersoll for around five hours. All lanes reopened just after 12pm.

"Early investigation determined that there were several vehicles that collided in the westbound lanes of the 401 early this morning," says OPP Sergeant David Rektor. "That collision resulted in a secondary crash in the eastbound lanes with a pedestrian that was struck and killed in the eastbound lanes."

The victim has since been identified as 55-year-old Terry Childs of Kitchener. It is not clear if Childs was killed after being ejected from a vehicle and ending up in the eastbound lanes, or somehow made his way there after the initial crash.

"That's what the TTCI (Technical Traffic Collision Investigators) are looking at. They're trying to get all their interviews together to see what actually happened with this individual and how he ended up over there," says Oxford OPP Constable Lisa Narancsik. "We're thinking that maybe he was ejected but we're just trying to piece that together."

Police say an investigation is ongoing.
