The woman charged after a dead baby was found in a downtown London dumpster will return to court in one week.
Samantha Richards' case was back before the courts on Thursday. A representative for the Amherstburg woman's defence lawyer Patricia Brown asked to have the case put over for seven weeks to review disclosure documents from the Crown.
The Justice of the Peace rejected the request, noting the case had already been adjourned twice for disclosure review. Brown and Richards are both required to attend when the case returns to the London courthouse on November 10.
Brown was unable to attend the proceedings in person Thursday as she was in Sarnia for a trial. Richards was also not present for the brief hearing.
Richards is charged with neglecting to obtain assistance in childbirth and with disposing of a child’s body after delivery. The charges were laid after the body of a baby was discovered in a garbage dumpster in the area of Richmond St. and Mill St. on June 16.
A publication ban is in place on all evidence and information heard in court.
