Final Project L.E.A.R.N. Stats Released

There were more criminal charges laid, but fewer offence notices handed out during this year's edition of Project L.E.A.R.N.

London police released the final statistics on Wednesday, after wrapping up the latest edition of the crackdown on rowdy behaviour in areas around Western University, Fanshawe College, and downtown London.

Police say, it total, 37 criminal charges were laid in the 2016 version of Project L.E.A.R.N. Of those, 14 were against students while 23 were against non-students.

There were three charges laid during what was called "Reunion Weekend," which was held September 30-October 2 after the official Homecoming was pushed to later in October in an effort to reduce the likelihood of out of control parties, like the ones held on Broughdale Ave. in the past.

The new official Homecoming, which was held October 22, saw four criminal charges laid.

"From a police perspective, during 2016 Project L.E.A.R.N., Reunion Weekend and Homecoming, no major incidents were encountered, with the exception of the large crowd issues associated to the Broughdale Avenue area for "Reunion Weekend," police say in a release issued Wednesday. "The London Police Service will continue to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all communities in our City."

Police also issued a toal of 254 offence notices this fall. More than half were given to non-students.

During Project L.E.A.R.N. in 2015, 23 criminal charges were laid and 791 offence notices were issued.
