Hundreds of litres of diesel fuel was spilled across a section of Hwy. 401 near Woodstock after a crash involving a tractor trailer Thursday morning.
Oxford OPP were called to the westbound lanes of the highway between Sweaburg Rd. and Dodge Line around 4am after a tractor trailer, a car, and a minivan collided. The force of the crash flipped the transport onto its side, spilling roughly 450 litres of diesel fuel from the truck's fuel tank onto the roadway.
Police say the adult male driver of the minivan was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The drivers of the other two vehicles suffered minor injuries.
The Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Transportation were called in to assist with the clean-up.
The crash closed the three westbound lanes of the highway for nine hours. Police reopened two lanes around 1:45pm, while the final westbound lane remained closed until around 11pm.
Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash. They are asking anyone who may have witnesses the collision, that they have not yet spoken to, to call them at 519-485-6554 or 1-888-310-1122.
