Western Fair To 'Rock The Festhalle' Thursday

The sounds of polka will be replaced by the sounds of rock and roll at the Western Fair District on Thursday night.

A big crowd is expected at the Western Fair District for Rock the Festhalle at Oktoberfest. Canadian rockers Big Sugar will take the stage at the Metroland Media Agriplex at 8pm, followed by Tom Cochrane and Red Rider at 10:30pm.

The show, being presented by Classic Rock Free 98.1, is a general admission concert. There will be seating in both the stands and on the floor. There will be tables on the arena floor, which will be taken on a first come, first served basis.

Rob Lumsden, director of shows and events with the Western Fair District, says ticket sales have been brisk.

"Our expectation at this point is that we will have limited availability at the door," says Lumsden. "I would strongly recommend people go online today [Wednesday] at www.westernfairdistrict.com to get their tickets. The online portion will stop selling tickets this evening at 11:59pm and we'll see what's left over at that point for the walk-ups. But, if you definitely want to be a part of Rock the Festhalle, I would strongly encourage those people to go online and get their tickets tonight."

Doors to the Metroland Media Agriplex open at 5pm.  Lumsden says the ceremonial tapping of the keg is set for 6:45pm.

Cochrane, best known for hits like “Life Is A Highway” and “Boy Inside The Man”, is a multiple Juno award winner and member of the Canadian Music Industry Hall of Fame. He was also nominated for a Grammy Award in 1993 for “Life Is A Highway.”

Big Sugar have forged a solid career as well, with Canadian rock radio hits like “If I Had My Way” and “The Scene.”
