Ontario Health Study Looking For Volunteers

Londoners are being asked to help researchers get a better understanding of what affects the health and quality of life of Ontarians.

The Ontario Health Study is looking for volunteers to take part in its study by coming to the Royal Canadian Leagion Branch 317 on Oakland Ave. on Tuesday or Wednesday. Participants betwen the ages of 30 and 74 are asked to fill out a short questionnaire and provide a blood sample. Information collected in the study may help improve the prevention and diagnosis of chronic diseases such as cancer, diabetes and heart disease.

“The information provided in the OHS questionnaire by participants gives us an overall snapshot of the health of Ontarians as well as their exposure to common risk factors,” says Dr. Philip Awadalla, executive scientific director of the OHS. “Combining questionnaire responses with a blood sample provided at the London Study Centre allows us to get a more detailed look at their health. These data allow researchers to draw comprehensive conclusions about the health of the overall population.”

People who have taken part in the OHS before are being contacted by email. Anyone interested in participating for the first time is invited to go to www.ontariohealthstudy.ca/london to register. Study Centre location and hours of operation: Royal Canadian Legion Branch 317, 311 Oakland Ave., London Tuesday, October 4 from 9am to 5:30pm. Wednesday, October 5 from 8:30am to 7pm.
