Local EQAO Results A Mixed Bag

Local educators seem to have their work cut out for them when it comes to elementary reading, writing, and math according to the latest results of EQAO testing.

Results of the 2015-2016 math and literacy tests for students in Grades 3, 6, and 9 were released Wednesday.

At the Thames Valley District School Board, the percentage of students that met the provincial standard for reading, writing, and math was below the provincial average in both Grades 3 and 6.

The Grade 3 results showed 59% met the provincial standard in reading (72% provincial average), 60% met the standard in writing (74% provincial average), and 54% met the standard in math (63% provincial average).

For Grade 6, it was 73% in reading (81% provincial average), 69% writing (80% provincial average), and 44% in math (50% provincial average).

Grade 9 testing results showed 44% met the provincial standard in applied math (45% provincial average), 82% met the standard in academic math (83% provincial average), and 91% met the standard in the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (92% provincial average).

The London District Catholic School Board scored higher in the primary and junior testing. Grade 3 results showed 67% met the provincial standard in reading (72% provincial average), 70% met the standard in writing (74% provincial average), and 59% met the standard in math (63% provincial average).

For Grade 6, it was 82% in reading (81% provincial average), 82% writing (80% provincial average), and 52% in math (50% provincial average).
