Dead Pythons Found

The London Humane Society has launched an investigation after the discovery of 11 dead pythons.

The discovery was made by a citizen on Friday morning on a residential street near Victoria Hospital.

"The citizen went out to put their garbage out and discovered the snakes," says Judy Foster, Executive Director of the London Humane Society. "City of London workers came along and said 'we can't take them because they are dead animals.' We were contacted and we went out. We dispatched an agent immediately (to get the snakes). In the meantime, another City of London worker had taken the snakes away."

The snakes were eventually brought to the Humane Society for examination on Friday afternoon.

Foster says it appears they may not have been properly cared for by their owner.

"We're assuming from the various body conditions that we've looked at that neglect may have been a factor. We're having the snakes examined this afternoon (Monday) to help us determine exactly how they died," she says.

The Humane Society estimates the snakes were between one and three years old. Some were also bigger than what London's animal control bylaws allow.

"The municipal bylaw does prohibit snakes that are larger than two feet," Foster says. "At least two, if not three, of these snakes were not in compliance with the local bylaw."

Anyone with any information about this case is asked to call the London Humane Society.
