London police are alleging that alcohol was a factor in a fatal crash at Highbury Ave. and Dundas St.
Police announced Friday morning that impaired driving charges have been laid against one of the drivers in the crash that killed two people and injured three others.
Scott Altiman, 31, of Delaware has been charged with two counts of impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death, two counts of impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm, two counts of criminal negligence causing death, and two counts of criminal negligence causing bodily harm.
The charges were laid a day after two vehicles collided in the intersection at around 1:55am. Police say a southbound car on Highbury Ave. was travelling at a high rate of speed when it hit the driver’s side of a car that was heading east on Dundas St.
Two of the four people in the eastbound car were pronounced dead at hospital. They've been identified as 46-year-old Jerry Pitre of London and 23-year-old Cody Andrews of New Hamburg.
The driver and a third passenger are still in hospital. Police say they are in fair condition.
Altiman is in serious condition in hospital.
