Cost Of Rapid Transit On The Rise

An environmental assessment needed before the city can move forward with its rapid transit plan is going to cost Londoners an additional $1.6-million.

A staff report heading to the civic works committee on Monday recommends a pay boost for consulting engineering firm IBI Group.

The additional money would cover the cost for IBI Group to include the north and east corridors in the environmental assessment.

The two corridors were not originally included in the scope of the document. Staff say they are now needed due to restructuring and modifications such as the addition of the Richmond tunnel and alternative routes around Western University.

If the additional money is approved the consulting firm would be paid a total of $3.5-million, excluding HST.

Council endorsed a full bus rapid transit (BRT) system at the end of May.
