The local jobless rate fell in July, but it wasn't because more people were working.
Statistics Canada says the jobless rate for the London-St. Thomas area was 7.2% last month, down from 7.3% in June.
Figures from the federal agency show 500 fewer people were working in July compared to the month before, while 600 people left the labour force.
The local employment rate also fell, from 57.9% in June to 57.7% in July.
Nationally, the economy lost 31,200 jobs in July, sending the unemployment rate to 6.9% in July from June`s 6.8%.
Statistics Canada says full-time work in Canada hasn't suffered a one-month blow this big since October of 2011.
