St. Thomas Plant Getting Government Grant

A conditional grant from the Province of Ontario will help a St. Thomas window and door maker create 140 new jobs and retain 184 existing positions.

North Star Windows and Doors will get $1.2-million from the Southwestern Ontario Development Fund to go toward plant upgrades and expansions. A statement from the province says the grant will help North Star "upgrade and expand its plant to increase production to meet rising demand in existing markets and enter new markets."

The cost of the expansion and upgrades totals $10-million.

"We are thrilled to partner with the Ontario government on this exciting project," says North Star CEO Ron Cauchi. "The investment we’re announcing today will help us purchase innovative manufacturing equipment and also give us the extra manufacturing space we need to meet growing demand, and expand our business both locally and internationally."

The project is expected to be finished by the end of 2019.
