Londoners are being reminded to use extreme caution near area waterways following 24 hours of heavy rain.
The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority (UTRCA) says 15-25mm of rain fell in the watershed late Sunday into Monday. With the ground already saturated from the roughly 50mm that fell Wednesday and Thursday, the most recent rainfall is now running off into streams and rivers.
"There is going to be some minor flooding. Some of the green areas, the park lands next to the river are going to have some flooding in them but nothing major," says Eleanor Heagy, UTRCA spokesperson.
The Thames River in London is expected to peak Tuesday.
Parents are urged to keep their children and pets away from all watercourses for the time being.
"We're back to more normal temperatures now so the water is very, very cold," says Heagy. "It's slippery as stream banks are muddy and water is fast moving. It is just not safe to go near the water right now."
