The number of influenza-related deaths in London and Middlesex County this flu season has doubled.
The Middlesex-London Health Unit says there were three flu-related deaths last week, bringing the total since September 1 to six.
Between March 13 and 19, there were 64 new lab-confirmed cases of Influenza reported to the health unit. Of those, 16 required hospitalization.
Since the beginning of September, a total of 332 laboratory-confirmed influenza cases have been reported in London and Middlesex County. There have been nine declared outbreaks in long-term care facilities, although none were reported last week.
Although the flu season seemed to get off to a slow start in our region, the number of cases has been steadily climbing since mid-February.
