A decision to buy scratch tickets at a north London store turned out to be a profitable one for an Ilderton mother and daughter.
Lucia DeMelo and Filomena Brant had the good fortune of buying a ticket that won them $1-million dollars. They bought the Instant Diamond Payout ticket the Wonderland Fresh Convenience on Wonderland Rd. while Lucia's car was being serviced.
“While we were waiting for my mom’s car to get an oil change, we decided to get a coffee and play some scratch tickets,” says Brant.
It was her mother who discovered that one of the two tickets they bought was a winner.
“As I was scratching my ticket I saw the number 39 – my lucky number because I’m born in 1939,” says DeMelo. “And then I saw all the zeroes.”
According to a release from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, Filomena plans to use her share of the winnings to buy a new Jeep, while Lucia is planning a trip to Las Vegas.
