No people were hurt, but two cats were killed in a serious house fire in east London.
Firefighters were called to the home at 40 Balmoral Ave., near Oxford St. and Adelaide St. shortly before 7am Tuesday.
"When crews arrived flames were coming out of the roof of the home," says Jack Burt, fire prevention inspector with the London Fire Department. "Crews did a search of the home and found no one inside. Although, two cats perished in the fire."
Firefighters extinguished the blaze, but as of 10:30am were still on scene. London police are trying to locate the owner of the house, who was not home at the time of the fire.
"The damage estimate is currently about $80,000. There was very extensive damage to the attic area. It burned down into the kitchen area of the home. Lots of water damage inside from fire fighting efforts," says Burt.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
