Police Ticket Man For Too Much Snow On His Car

Ontario Provincial Police officers are stressing the importance of removing snow and ice from your vehicle before heading out on area roadways.

The warning comes after an 80-year-old man from Huron County was given a $110 ticket in Brussels for leaving his car mostly covered in snow.

Western Region Sergeant Dave Rektor says this is dangerous for both the driver and other motorists.

“We’ve seen this on the major highways in particular where you have transports driving along and they’ve got ice or snow on top of the trailer or other cars with ice or snow still on the roof,” says Rektor. “It blows off and it cracks windshields when it comes flying off at 100 km/h. That’s another reason why we want to make sure that not only the windows are scraped clear but so is the roof and the rest of your vehicle.”

Sergeant Rektor says it’s also important to ensure front and back lights are free of snow to allow for maximum visibility at night.
