Arrests Made In East London Shooting

Charges have been laid against two men in connection with a shooting in an east end parking lot.

Police began investigating after a man was found with a single gun shot wound in a parking lot at 1165 Oxford St. E. around 1:30am Sunday. The man was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries. He has since been released.

The accused were arrested outside an address on Empire St. around 11pm Sunday. David Calvert, 32, and 31-year-old David Smith are both charged with aggravated assault. Calvert also faces firearms charges.

Both men were to appear in court Monday.

Investigators are still looking for the weapon used in the shooting and are not ruling out the possibility that is may have been ditched in the area of the shooting. Police are advising residents in the area of Oxford St. E and Em[ire St. to be aware that a firearm, believed to be a handgun, may be in their neighbourhood.
