Health Unit Issues Tattoo Shop Warning

The Middlesex-London Health Unit is advising people who got tattoos at a home-based tattoo shop to get in touch with their doctor.

The health unit recently inspected Boston's Tattoos on Waterloo St. and, according to a release from the health unit, they found that "infection control measures and other safety procedures were deficient." The inspection came after the health unit recieved a complaint from a member of the public.

While the risk of infection is low, the health unit says clients should talk to a health professional about the need for testing for hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV. It also emphasizes that this advisory is being issued as a precaution.

The health unit recommends that anyone who gets a tattoo strongly consider getting one by a tattoo artist whose facility has been inspected by its inspectors. Otherwise, there is no way of knowing if infection control standards are being adequately met.
