A London man is facing a slew of charges following a short crime spree that saw a number of vehicle break-ins and assaults in London.
The London Police Service says on Saturday around 7:30am, a man was confronted by concerned citizens when he was seen breaking into vehicles the area of 1247 Huron St. One of the bystanders was assaulted during the confrontation, which ended with the attacker fleeing the scene.
Police say the same man then entered a home on Kenwood Ave. and grabbed a kitchen knife before being confronted by a homeowner. The man demanded keys to a car and unsuccessfully attempted to steal the victim's vehicle. The man then fled the home when the occupant exited the residence.
After getting a suspect description from both incidents, police set up a perimeter in the area where the man was last seen.
Around 9:30am, officers were able to locate a suspect hiding in a shed in the backyard of a nearby address.
Police allege he was in possession of the kitchen knife at the time of his arrest, along with numerous items that were stolen from vehicles. The suspect also allegedly gave a false name during his arrest, but his true identity was later verified.
Bernard Ingraham, 24, of London has been charged with the following offences:
- Two counts of assault
- Three counts of theft
- Two counts of uttering death threats
- Unlawfully entering a dwelling
- Two counts of robbery
- Three counts of possession of a weapon
- Assaulting a peace officer
- Resisting a peace officer
- Attempting theft
- Escaping lawfully custody
- Giving a false name
