A Record Warm Day In London

It's not quite July-like but for November, it's pretty good.

Warm weather that has blanketed London in the early part of the week has led to a record-breaking temperature in the city.

A 2pm Tuesday, Environment Canada registered a temperature of 21.8 degrees celsius at the London International Airport. That broke the old November 3 record high temperature of 21.7 degrees celsius, which was set in 1961.

Environment Canada meteorologist Geoff Coulson says a large area of high pressure anchored off the U.S. mid-Atlantic seaboard is acting as a big pump, bringing southerly winds into the region.

It will turn cooler with more seasonal temperatures by Saturday but another high pressure system next week will again bring warmer than normal weather.

Coulson says most long term forecasts suggest the El Nino effect will make for a milder winter season.

He cautions though that around the Great Lakes minor temperature variances can have a huge impact on the conditions we experience.

He says a mild November will keep Lake Huron water temperatures warmer and the first burst of cold Arctic air could set up strong snow squall activity.
