SIU To Probe Lake Huron Drowning

The province's Special Investigations Unit has been called in after a woman drowned south of Bayfield on Sunday.

Huron OPP say the 32-year-old woman was pronounced dead after being pulled from the rough waters of Lake Huron Sunday afternoon.

Police responded to a report of a distraught woman just before 6 pm.

Police and family members located the female victim in Lake Huron approximately 100’ off the shoreline. But they were unable to rescue her n the rough waters.

The Canadian Coast Guard, U.S. Coast Guard helicopter and an area Fire Department were brought in to aid in the search and rescue attempt. The woman was located in the water at 7:20 pm and rushed to hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

Because the SIU has invoked its mandate, OPP won't be releasing any further details.
