Local Election Results

The political map in the London area has undergone somewhat of a change of colour.

Conservative incumbents Ed Holder and Susan Truppe have gone down to defeat at the hands of Liberal challengers. Holder was defeated in London-West by Kate Young, while Truppe lost the riding of London-North-Centre to Peter Fragiskatos.

"We have to be a government that governs for Canadians and looks at those who are having a tough time right now," says Fragiskatos when asked about his first order of business on Parliament Hill. "We have to find ways to diversify the economy and focus on the needs and concerns of the country at large."

Meanwhile, Kate Young say she's excited to get down to businesses.

"I've got a lot to learn but I've certainly had a wonderful time getting to tonight and it's only the beginning," notes Young.

The Conservatives held on to Elgin-Middlesex-London, with Karen Vecchio coasting to an easy win.

Voters in London-Fanshawe seemed content with the representation they have received from Irene Mathyssen of the NDP, giving her a victory over runner-up Suzanna Dieleman of the Conservatives.

"I didn't think the Liberals would be able to win a majority, so that is most definitely a surprise," Mathyssen tells BlackburnNews.com. "This first thing is to make sure they live up to all these promises."

In Lambton-Kent-Middlesex, Conservative Bev Shipley was re-elected. Voters in Huron-Bruce re-elected Conservative Ben Lobb, while John Nater of the Conservatives won the riding of Perth-Wellington.

Conservative Dave MacKenzie was easily re-elected in Oxford.
