Between the football game, two concerts and countless other events at Western University this coming weekend officials are hoping to keep the homecoming party on campus.
In years past, police have had problems with large crowds and parties on the streets surrounding the university.
This year, organizers have planned a 9am concert at UC Hill. They are expecting 7,000 students to show up for breakfast and a show from DVBBS.
"There will be some pancakes and some coffee, we like to carbload them to start their day, that's an essential element and then they're here. So while they're being monitored we do see that our students do like to enjoy entertainment and they want to have opportunities to be able to come together and celebrate," says Western's Executive Director of Alumni Relations Trista Walker. "This will be the safest place for students to have their homecoming experience and that is a guarantee."
Following the morning show those students will be taken to TD Stadium for the football game, where the Western Mustangs take on Carleton. After that, there will be another concert on UC Hill featuring Our Lady Peace, Sloan and Coleman Hell.
Police say they will be patrolling the areas surrounding campus watching out for the usual infractions.
"The things that we see most are alcohol related offences; whether it be open alcohol in public, consuming alcohol in public and there's also the urinating in public, all of these are hefty fines and quite preventable," says London Police Constable Ken Steeves. "We have been partnering with (Western) ... trying to do what we can to minimize anything from happening."
