United Way Aims High

Once again, the United Way of London and Middlesex is hoping for record donations.

At Thursday's Harvest Lunch, the agency announced its campaign goal for 2015. It hopes to raise $9.1-million, the largest campaign goal in its history.

“Our Campaign is about much more than the dollars we raise – it’s about improving lives locally,” says Andrew Lockie, CEO, United Way London & Middlesex. “Last year, thanks to the generosity and trust of thousands of donors, we were able to invest in more than 88 programs that served more than 85,000 people right here in London and Middlesex County.”

This year's goal surpasses last year's goal by $100,000. A total of $9,005,622 was raised in last year's campaign, making it the largest fundraising effort to date for the United Way of London and Middlesex.

The 2015 campaign is already off to an impressive start, according to Chair Anna Iacobelli. She says donations that came in prior to the campaign's launch sit at $1.6-million.

“In my role as chair, I have had the opportunity learn more about the issues our community is facing,” says Iacobelli. “It was shocking to learn that one in seven people right here in London live in poverty - but that also means that our community is brimming with possibility. By giving to United Way, donors have the opportunity elevate someone’s dream for the future and build a better community for everyone.”

The United Way of London and Middlesex has either reached or surpassed its campaign goal in 14 straight years.
