12-Year-Old Killed By Horse Prior To Shelburne Parade

A 12-year-old girl is dead after being crushed by a horse while preparing for a festival parade in Shelburne.

The Shelburne Police Service says on Saturday, the young girl, who was supposed to be in the Fiddlefest parade, was in a staging area with a number of horses. The horse she was on reared up, causing her to fall off and the horse came down on top of her.

The 12-year-old was airlifted to a hospital in Orangeville where she succumbed to her injuries.

Police say foul play is not suspected, but a full investigation is being conducted into the circumstances surrounding the girl's death.

The parade has also been cancelled as a result of the incident.
